Candi and the Strangers Music for Richard Garriott: Man On A Mission
March 23, 2010
Candi and the Strangers' songwriting team, John Constant and Samantha Constant recently completed scoring scenes of Austin Documentary "Richard Garriott: Man On A Mission". This space documentary chronicles a civilian cosmonaut who travels to the International Space Station with the Russian Space program.
Candi and the Strangers recorded 5 scenes for the movie (Opening, Russian History, Black Sea Training, Docking with the ISS, Final scene) with special guest appearances by the Tosca String Quartet and Yvonne Lambert of Octopus Project. Tracks were recorded and mixed at Austin's Cacophony Recorders by Erik Wofford. The tracks merge indie space pop, the electronic elegance of the theremin, and string / horn arrangements which pay homage to Ennio Morricone's Spaghetti Western genre to create futuristic frontier landscapes.
Richard Garriott: Man On A Mission premiered at the Paramount in Austin on March 14th and won the SXSW Audience Award for Spotlight Premieres. Also written by John Constant and performed by Candi and the Strangers was the trailer for the movie.
