Candi and the Strangers Self-Titled released
Nov 3, 2009

These ethereal locals officially formed January 2009 after their producer, Erik Wofford (The Black Angels, Voxtrot, The Octopus Project), decided to step out from behind the mixing board and join the band. Lush arrangements, driving beats, layers of vibraphone, organ, omnichord and guitar mix with honeyed female vocals to produce a sound which gives a nod to the bright French yé-yé paired with haunting electronica and shoegaze. The band has been likened to a combination of opposite ends of the musical spectrum from Broadcast, Blonde Redhead, My Bloody Valentine, Francoise Hardy, The Velvet Underground, Ladytron and Blondie just to name a few.

C&S have just completed the finishing touches on their debut album, "Candi and the Strangers", internationally released November 3, 2009. Though still in it's infancy, Candi and the Strangers have recently scored part of the Beef and Pie production about Austin's own Richard Garriott entitled "Richard Garriott: Man On A Mission". This space documentary chronicles a civilian cosmonaut who travels to the International Space Station with the Russian Space program. The soundtrack features instrumentals which expand the band's palette by exploring Russian themes.

Several songs used in the documentary were taken directly from the band's latest material destined for their second album. As this prolific band drops their debut CD winter of 2009 they will be heading back into Cacophony Recorders to begin cutting tracks for their second release. With this next album C&S retain their lush sonic landscape while taking a decidedly rougher stance. The beats are driving harder, the guitars are playing a more central role, and the breathy songstress is more powerful.
